Accra’s recurrent urban flooding disrupts daily life, impeding mobility, reducing economic activity, and straining emergency response efforts. Existing flood forecasting systems do not offer real-time data on road passability, leaving residents to rely on word-of-mouth and personal observation. Our solution, FloodNavigator, integrates user-generated reports and predictive geospatial models into an interactive map, displaying road conditions by flood severity. Leveraging Ghana’s 99% mobile phone penetration and widespread use of navigation apps, this platform empowers millions to navigate Accra safely and efficiently. Many cities worldwide are experiencing rapid urbanization and increased flooding due to climate change. Although we will start in Accra, we hope to bring FloodNavigator to communities in need across the globe.
