BioJect

The global healthcare industry generates roughly 75M pounds of needle waste annually, posing significant environmental and public health risks. Solution: BioJect is developing biodegradable needles made from thermoplastic starch, polylactic acid, and additive reagents. These needles decompose naturally within nine months, reducing environmental impact and minimizing the risk of accidental needle stick injuries. BioJect offers the same precision and reliability as traditional metal needles due to our even thinner, ultrafine 1-55μm gauge that minimizes pain. In addition, BioJect’s needles will be sold at $0.20, the same price as needles being used currently. Implementation: BioJect’s needles are designed for seamless integration with existing medical equipment, ensuring ease of adoption as our needle meets ISO standards and is compatible with all syringes. We will conduct extensive R&D in Australia to receive a 43.5% cash rebate, design patents, achieve FDA approval, create educational materials for healthcare professionals, and build credibility over time.

AgriSolar

AgriSolar provides affordable, solar-powered irrigation systems and aims to make sustainable farming accessible and practical for those who need it most. We deliver affordable and accessible solutions in two key ways. First, our flexible revenue-sharing model eliminates the need for a large upfront investment, making irrigation technology accessible to smallholder farmers. Additionally, by offering our product through farmer cooperatives, we empower farmers to collaborate and share resources effectively, fostering a community-driven approach that maximizes efficiency and reduces individual costs. This combination of revenue-sharing, technological accessibility, and community-focused implementation makes AgriSolar a powerful and scalable solution for smallholder farmers. This approach ensures improved livelihoods without financial strain, while laying the groundwork to address similar challenges in other regions and countries.

FloodNavigator

Accra’s recurrent urban flooding disrupts daily life, impeding mobility, reducing economic activity, and straining emergency response efforts. Existing flood forecasting systems do not offer real-time data on road passability, leaving residents to rely on word-of-mouth and personal observation. Our solution, FloodNavigator, integrates user-generated reports and predictive geospatial models into an interactive map, displaying road conditions by flood severity. Leveraging Ghana’s 99% mobile phone penetration and widespread use of navigation apps, this platform empowers millions to navigate Accra safely and efficiently. Many cities worldwide are experiencing rapid urbanization and increased flooding due to climate change. Although we will start in Accra, we hope to bring FloodNavigator to communities in need across the globe.

HERO2

Altruism has not motivated us, as a nation, to drive less and reduce our carbon emissions. Businesses and individuals that buy carbon credits with questionable integrity on the voluntary carbon market to offset their emissions are missing out on the potential to partner with people locally, especially low-income Americans who may take climate-friendly actions out of necessity. HERO2 uses a cellphone application and a combination of payment, behavioral psychology, and prosocial media to get more people to walk and bike more. Backed by cell phone data, HERO2 pays app users to generate carbon credits that carry strong brand integrity and recognition, which HERO2 leverages to sell premium credits. HERO2 empowers and provides equitable access and pay to all Americans for their decarbonizing actions locally. The HERO2 journey starts with more people biking and walking more and expands to public transportation, home energy use, sustainable consumer purchasing… towards true net zero!

Roof Us Radio

Roof Us Radio will be a station combating gender based violence by achieving three main goals (1) increase awareness of GBV through digital outreach, (2) create an art based platform for non-traditional GBV advocacy, and (3) establish a referral service and database to connect victims help. The station integrates renewable energy to counteract power outages and plans to sustain operations through advertising revenue. Its ability to reach communities in the most rural areas of Zambia and its emphasis on using artistic expression as a platform for advocacy sets it apart from less connected organizations.

Relumi Packaging

190 billion plastic pill bottles are used annually, while only 3% get recycled. The healthcare industry is one of the biggest contributors to global waste, accounting for 8% of U.S. emissions. Our Big Idea is an aluminum pill bottle made out of recycled aluminum with a food safe coating internally and an air-tight seal to serve the same purpose as plastic pill bottles, without the excessive plastic waste that will inevitably end up in oceans or landfills. As the search for sustainable alternatives becomes more pressing due to environmental concerns, with new laws and regulations passing, companies and consumers are looking for products developed with sustainability in mind. Relumi Packaging is here to fulfill the need for sustainable single-use packaging.

Digital Therapeutix

Digital Therapeutix addresses the urgent global challenge of antibiotic resistance by pioneering bacteriophage therapy, a natural, targeted alternative to traditional antibiotics. Our mission spans human health, veterinary medicine, and agriculture, targeting areas where antibiotic overuse accelerates resistance. By bridging the gap between cutting-edge research and real-world applications, we aim to bring life-saving treatments to patients and industries that need them most. Through strategic partnerships and scalable technologies, Digital Therapeutix is leading the charge in reducing antibiotic dependence, safeguarding public health, and promoting sustainable practices. Our solution not only addresses a critical medical need but also positions itself as a cornerstone in the fight against one of the 21st century’s most pressing threats to global health and food security.
